 R.D. Pestonji :

Prae is a widowed mother who dresses all in black to mourn her dead husband. Her relationship with Thom, who runs a nightclub, leads her to become involved in a murder, which Seni, Thom¡¯s boss, commits with Thom in the hope of securing a better life. Instead of helping Thom and Prae fulfill their hope of love, the crime pushes that hope even further out of reach. This film is a crime story that can be considered Thailand¡¯s very first film noir. It was shown at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1961.

R.D. Pestonji
R.D. Pestonji, the forefather of new Thai cinema, was born in Bangkok in 1908 of Persian descent. After studying engineering in England, Pestonji returned to Thailand and made his first short film, [Tang](1937) and his feature directorial debut, [Dear Dolly](1951). Since then, Pestonji has made numerous films, constantly raising technical standards and tackling all genres. Up until his death, Pestonji lobbied the government to support local filmmaking. Pestonji¡¯s influence as a filmmaker extends further than almost any other figure in Thai film history and his films are some of Thailand¡¯s best-loved classics.
